Wrapping paper or gift bags? Whatever works. My preference is when something isn’t already rectangular to put it in a box and wrap it, complete with ribbon and bow. Sometimes you can’t find a box, or a bag is easier to carry, or you don’t have time, or you see a really adorable bag you must use, so a bag it is. Wow. That was long-winded! 😀
Real tree or artificial? Artificial. I kill everything, even dead things.
When do you put up the tree? This year, it was Dec. 1. Other years, it’s been much, much later.
When do you take the tree down? January, when I think it’s about time I put this stuff away.
Do you like egg nog? Not really. My son loves it. My mom used to get it every year, b/c she loved to add the rum.
Favorite gift received as a child? One year, I got a play-by-numbers organ. I loved it.
Do you have a nativity scene? No.
Hardest person to buy for? My father.
Easiest person to buy for? My son.
Mail or e-mail Christmas cards? I don’t do Christmas cards.
Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Last year, my son told my husband not to get me jewelry. My husband told me what my son said, and I told my husband my son was right, I didn’t want jewelry. After that conversation, my husband went out and bought me jewelry. WHY?
Favorite Christmas movie? So hard to choose. I guess it’s a toss-up between Miracle on 34th Street and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I could easily choose another one on any given day in December.
When do you start shopping for Christmas? This year, I refused to start until after Thanksgiving. Other years, I’ve started in October.
Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? No.
Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Fudge and anything peppermint.
Clear lights or colored on the tree? Clear.
Favorite Christmas song? The music from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” always makes me happy. I also love Bruce Springsteen’s “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
Travel at Christmas or stay home? I stay home. I’ve worked retail and in casinos my whole adult life, so travel was never in the cards.
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer? But definitely!
Angel on the tree top or a star? An angel doll my mother made. Very simple and sweet and I love her.
Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? One on Christmas Eve, the rest on Christmas morning.
Most annoying thing about this time of year? The way Christmas stuff goes up so early.
Favorite ornament theme or color? None. I get uneasy when I see perfectly coiffed trees.
Favorite thing for Christmas dinner? Turkey
What do you want for Christmas this year? It was really, really hard to think of something to want this year. Finally, I asked for a weekend in Chicago to see “Wicked.” My husband is more excited about this gift than I can say. He thinks it’s the best gift idea ever, and it’s made his holiday season planning for it. Seeing him this happy about Christmas makes me happy.
